Use Twitter to Find Travel Deals

Twitter relaunched its home page to emphasize “search,” and the impact will reverberate for travel, financial services, lawn mowers — you name it.

Twitter announced the new home page on its blog today.

If you are a travel company and not on Twitter, the new home page may change your thinking fast.

If you run a travel company, whether you are involved in social media or not, this will impact your business.

If you are a deal publisher like Travelzoo, Smarter Travel, Cruise Critic, Travelscream, getaroom.com or Voyij, you have new competition because companies can post their deals without you.

Twitter in the Classroom and Meeting Room?

So the landscape is changing for learning, especially for the youth of the world. The generations coming up are now using more collaboration for learning. Instead of the old preach to teach such things as Wikipedia, and online intelligent discussions in large classes are being utilized. This helps so everyone even the shy kids can be part of the conversation. The new way of learning is not just regurgitating information through test taking but thinking, solving problems through searching and researching.

Dr. Monica Rankin has been using Twitter discussions in her class and even follows from a distance when she is not in class and comments back though Twitter.

Could this be incorporated into the three life bloods of corporate meeting content? Training, education and of course networking?

No Turning Back…Social Media is Here to Stay!

In a day and age where a cell phone or computer is something practically every person in the world has as a means of communications, I find myself trying to stay afloat in the constant ebb and flow of Social Media.

How does one keep up with all of the social networking sites?
sm1.jpg

For this gal it’s simply….one day at a time and one site at a time. I know there are those of us who grew up in the 70’s and 80’s (Yes – I am one of you) that can remember when you didn’t own a computer or cell phone. Then as we got older (in the 90’s) when we got pagers and one of those cell phones that was about the size of a brick. While I have no desire to go back to that time of big hair and crazy fashion, I wonder if any of you are also keeping up with all of this?

I proudly have upgraded from that day and age to more technological devices such as a Notebook & a Blackberry, and daily am finding that the race to social networking is something that will never go away. While I personally find myself repeatedly using Facebook and Linkedin as my choice of networking sites, simply because of 2 simple reasons:

1) I was able to reconnect with friends, classmates and co-workers from my youth. Yes – I’ve reconnected with classmates (believe it or not) went to pre-school and kindergarten and grade school with!
2) And to stay connected with current co-workers and friends I’ve met through my various careers.

I definitely see it as something that is not going away anytime soon and think that it’s a great way to connect with each other with a greater frequency than in previous years and to a larger audience. I for one am glad, to be living and working with these means of communications as a great way to connect with our customers, friends and co-workers.

I wonder how many of you, our readers, are staying in step with the social media frenzy.
