Second Harvest Food Bank

The last few months, Doubletree Hotel San Jose’s CARE Committee, has teamed up with Bachrodt Elementary School in collecting canned food to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and Modesto. All of the food collected will be distributed to low income families with in the area between Daly City and Gilroy. The last fiscal year (July 2009 – July 2010), Second Harvest collected and distributed over 45.5 million pounds of nutritious food to families in need.

Last month, Doubletree San Jose’s Care Committee, visited the Bachrodt Elementary and introduced the program and concept of hunger to the second grade class.

This week, the class will be coming to the hotel to deliver their collected food, get a tour of the hotel, and enjoy in a celebratory lunch for all their hard work.

One Decision

I was inspired this last week about making “one decision” to do something better in my life and with my extra time, when we hosted the Annual City Team Ministries Business Community Breakfast on Thursday, May 7th.

Since listening to a few of the guest speakers from local Silicon Valley Businesses, including, Intel, NASA, BOMA Silicon Valley, Cisco (just to name a few) as well as those that have benefited from the program and others who volunteer in the program, I have also been inspired to make One Decision to help someone else in need. City Team Ministries does each and every day in our local community to help low income and the homeless in Santa Clara County through donations and volunteers. After watching the slide show during the pre-event rehearsal, I also know that, that picture of someone else in need – could easily be me.

I decided to sign up and asked to have information sent to me for volunteer opportunities that I can share with my team here at The Doubletree Hotel San Jose to better the lives of others. I am by no means pushing community service on any of you readers, however I thought I’d be the means or the “start button” that could help you make the one decision that could mean a huge difference to someone else in need. As we see the effects of a down economy, I ask myself, what am I doing to help better the life of someone who may need a little help?

Amazing what one decision can make in the lives of others!
