A little warning for all you heavy packers out there…

Most United customers who buy nonrefundable, domestic economy tickets will be charged $25 for checking a second bag under a new policy. The fee will not apply to customers with Premier status or higher in United’s Mileage Plus frequent-flyer program or Silver status or higher with the Star Alliance. They’ll still be able to check their second bag for free. For the rest, the new service fee will apply for travel beginning May 5 within the United States, and to or from Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, for tickets purchased on or after Feb. 4. United reports that this new policy could generate $100 million a year. United’s new checked bag policy is available at united.com/baggage.
